World Association of Detectives

The World Association of Detectives, Inc. is an outstanding and leading international organization whose members are the leaders of their profession in their respective communities and countries.

HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION: In 1950, the World Secret Service Association, Inc., an international organization of private investigators, was formed as a joint venture by the combined membership of the World Association of Detectives (founded in 1925) and the International Secret Service Association (founded in 1921). At our Annual Convention in August, 1966 in San Antonio, Texas, our present name was unanimously approved by amendment, reverting to our original name.

PURPOSE OF THE ASSOCIATION: The primary purpose of the Association is to promote and maintain the highest ethical practice in the profession and to foster and perpetuate a spirit of cooperation among its members and similar organizations. In addition, it endeavors to further and to establish a mutual feeling of trust, goodwill, and friendship.

ACTIVITIES: ANNUAL CONFERENCES, including seminars are held with educational intent and professional objectives. The Association merits its existence only so far as it can set higher standards, elevate the business or profession and help enlighten individual members in better approaches and techniques in their efforts. Annually, conventions and seminars have been held in prominent cities throughout the world. World-wide contacts are of great value.

PUBLICATIONS: The Association publishes the W.A.D. NEWS, which contains articles of interest to the membership. Activities and advice on matters of legislation are available to all members at all times.

A MEMBERSHIP ROSTER together with BY-LAWS and CODE OF ETHICS, plus a certificate of membership is distributed to each regular active member. A network of widespread membership from more than sixty countries around the world affords prompt reciprocity of the highest order.

PRIVACY POLICY: Privacy is a very serious matter for the World Association of Detectives. It is true that in order to process your request, we must know basic contact information such as your full name, address, e-mail address, and method of payment. All required information is kept internally and is never shared with third parties.

REFUNDS: Refunds will be given at the Board's discretion.

All applications (provided below) for membership must be made to the Executive Director in writing on an application form provided and accompanied by the following::

One (1) recent passport size photograph;
Remittance by check, money order or bank draft in United States currency, drawn on a U.S. bank, covering one year's annual dues in advance plus the application fee applicable at the time of the application
The following should also be submitted when required and available. This will greatly assist and speed up the application process.

A copy of your license where one is required.
A copy of your bond or insurance policy where required.
A one-page letter of introduction, on your company letterhead, stating the nature of your business and expertise.
List the languages spoken by you or your office staff.
Applications will be acted upon by the Board of Directors after receiving and reviewing the membership committee's investigation and recommendations. The Board of Directors meets in the Fall at the Annual Conference and in the Spring at the Mid-Term Board Meeting.

NOTE: Please ensure that all questions are answered in full and that the Waiver and Certification are both signed & dated by the Applicant.
